New blog, new SOP for the channel, and EU ranker
First of all, welcome to our new blog! This will be the alternate platform to discuss about our IRC channel and the game itself, so feel free to let me know if you are interested to be a long-term post writer here.
To kick off the blog, let’s start with the subjects of new channel SOP and EU ranker. Who do you think is suitable to be the new SOP? As much as I know that you guys love to have me as the autocrat :P, we do need someone who is more active to run the channel. And EU players, who do you think should be the EU ranker for our ranking page? I will be collecting opinions till the end of first week of December, so let me know what you think now!

If Gobolt was still a regular in #hisouten, I’d nominate him for the SOP position.
Otherwise—in all seriousness—I don’t see any real candidates.
Did you forget that when Gobolt was given OP status that he was absolutely terrible at it? I also recall that he resigned from the position willingly because he knew he was bad at it. He also didn’t really give a shit and said that he was just moderating for the sake of moderating. Someone as apathetic as Gobolt couldn’t possibly make a good SOP.

Let’s nameless for SOP and… well shit, is there actually someone active and good in EU at the same time? I’d say Adviceowl but…that’s just wrong.
GoingUP could rank EU I suppose, considering that he’s fairly active.
The few people whom I believe would make decent SOPs aren’t really that active, however. Tough choice.
Of course Senovit is the only choice!

No one is good enough for SOP in that channel. Gobolt was actually a good op. All the current ops are shit.
Defiantly gonna vote Temeraire for this.
To be honest I don’t think raymoo could be a good SOP at all.
As far as I know he has never really contributed to our community.
I can’t think of anything “good” he might have done as an op/hop, all I remember is him trolling and abusing his powers.
I wish someone like ZomB could become an SOP but unfortunately he quit.
I don’t know nameless at all so I can’t tell.
I honestly don’t know about RS…I didn’t see much of him as an hop but as a person he seems to be quite serious and he might take his position seriously but he tends to be quite close-minded and seems to have quite the superiority complex.
Therefore I think that he could either end up being good SOP or a tyrant.
As for Remi, she has contributed to the community with the wiki, she is very active, she seems to be a hard worker, can take things quite seriously, she can be very strict but she makes sense and I think she would take her role seriously.
There might be a few person I didn’t think of but I think Remi would be the best in those who could be the new SOP.
I am quite afraid to think that #hisouten could be thrown into chaos and meet its end depending on who could be the new SOP but I am sure that #hisouten would be safe even after Guu is gone if Remi would be promoted to SOP.
I have actually entertained the idea of nominating Remi as SOP, but I imagined that there must be a reason that she’s still only a halfop; it’s possible that she doesn’t want the position. If that’s not the case, however, then Remi would definitely be an excellent candidate, since considering other people:

Apparently GoingUP doesn’t want to rank EU; Aqo is active again, but I’m not sure if he’ll be willing to help rank the Eurasian players (since he gets pretty hefty delay to a lot of them). At this point, we’ll really have to just wait for somebody to volunteer since I can’t think of anyone else off the top of my head.
The results were in.
Guuchan contemplated the envelopes in his hand, fumbling them with sweaty palms. Was he nervous about the outcome? No, not really. He was nervous about speaking in front of hundreds of his fans. It was one thing to chat in #hisouten in front of hundreds of faceless admirers, mere user names blurting out seemingly disconnected words of praise and inquiry to him.
This was different. This was real life. Guuchan ever-so-slightly parted the folds of the red curtain, peering out to an eager but patient assembly of the finest Hisouten players. There, near the back, was ZomB. Two rows, no, three rows, in front of him, and directly to the left of Dimglow, was Magister. And look! Right in front of him! TR, in seat F17.
Guuchan didn’t even realize how furiously he was biting his nails out of anxiety. He closed the curtain and turned around.
“Oh my God,” he thought, “they’ve all come to see me.”
And see him they would. Over the past few months, Guu had conducted a suite of professional Hisouten polls with submissions and opinions collected from diverse sources including #hisouten and hisouten.wordpress.com. Through sophisticated analysis techniques like stochastic modeling, miscellaneous Monte Carlo methods, and other computational algorithms, Guuchan would finally answer the really important question. Who would be the new SOP?
He didn’t even remember opening the curtains and stepping up to the podium. All he knew was the current moment: roaring applause. “So this is what it’s like to be a star,” thought Guu, as he smiled and surveyed the cheering crowd. They loved him. And he loved them back. He could have stood there for hours, soaking up pure joy from the ego-feeding sounds of overwhelming approval. But there was business to be done, and with a majestic wave of his hand, Guuchan silenced his viewers so that the night could proceed.
He opened the envelope. He looked down. His grin melted faster than a snowman in summer, and he screamed into the microphone:
“rofl who the hell are these fools voting Remi as the most suitable person to be the new SOP? At what point did competence and responsibility become overlooked in favor of hosting the hisouten wiki?
here is a fun game: try to edit the wiki and attempt to count the number of times she bitches at you. Place bets with friends in irc over how many times she will go madshit. I know it’s tempting to watch Aristocrat discuss who the best touhou character is but take the time to truly observe Remi and try to decipher what exactly she is attempting to do for the community at any given time. If you still think she is doing a good job, open your irc client, type “/server irc.mizuumi.net” in the entry bar, join #iamp and take up an iamp gaming career.”

Whoever ends up getting the role (or it never happens and the power stays with this tyrant) won’t make everyone happy, but then nobody will. As well as I’m aware that there is no true democracy in this world, let alone the IRC world, I want to at least involve as many players as possible when it comes to decisions like this. Yes, having a closed community with small group of “cool” people is a good way to ensure everyone get along. However, if you truly love this game, you would want more people to get to know it and eventually fall in love with it like yourself, right? Just like why fansubbers spend hours and hours to bring you subtitled anime, just like why music rippers spend countless sleepless nights to bring you newest releases. I don’t deny that there might be ego-boosting involved in them, but as long as they strive to bring you the best, then what is there for the community to blame?
This entire blog and #hisouten are dumb. Here’s why.
For once, I am actually gonna have to agree with Sylian. None of the current ops have ever done absolutely anything for the community. Why are people like this promoted, while people that actually do things to help sit in the back and twiddle their thumbs?
Not trying to make it personal, but there is no better example of this than raymoo. I’m sorry, but all he has ever done since the day I came to #hisouten last December is make side comments he thinks are funny, and for lack of a better term, “troll” people. Maybe he’s done things every time I turned off my computer for the night. Who knows. As far as I can see though, it’s just guu throwing promotions all over the place blindly.
Why are you giving op to people that don’t want it? It’s happened like three times so far. Instead of giving it to whoever you pick out of your bag of favorites, why don’t you actually, I dunno, fucking look at who’s in the channel doing stuff. If there isn’t a person suitable for the job, you don’t just settle for whoever’s next best. You wait until someone good enough shows up. If no one does, big deal.
This is why I wish someone other than guu made #hisouten. We wouldn’t need retarded blogs like this of people of no importance making big decisions like this. A better person would have just given the right people op in the first place. We wouldn’t need shitty blogs like this one. s
There is like two people in that channel I would consider even keeping their moderation powers. Remi and Yama. The others are either not there 90% of the time, dumb, or not suitable for the position. There is no in-between. That’s it. The only person suitable for sop in that channel is ZomB and he doesn’t even want it.
Yes, I mad. But this is just getting out of hand. If you ever see me agreeing with Aristocrat and Sylian you know you must have went full-retarded. This is why I left. Stop making the absolute worst decisions you possibly can in every situation. I did like that channel for a while until guu showed back up and I don’t even know man. Good luck or something. I will refrain from flaming here, just something for everyone to think about: “people that actually do things”, “person suitable for the job”, and in opposition, “dumb”, “not suitable for the position”. My opinion? Easier said than done. Not meant to brag, but I have been on IRC for almost a decade. I have been and still am an admin of channels of which the numbers of users are multiples of #hisouten. I know that you have created a new channel yourself, so I will return the same best wishes to you: good luck or something.
I didn’t create a new channel. My channel that I made before I came to #hisouten isn’t even for soku. I don’t even play that game anymore because I’m tired of the decisions made in the channel. One of your ops made a new channel for soku, not me.
Man, it seems this blog is about being petty and random, so I want to have some fun, too. Just for the record, Bunny, starting off a statement claiming the entire channel is dumb pretty much makes anything you follow that with look like something a 10 year old would throw down. Back on topic: Moderators/OPs don’t need to make wikis, hold tournaments, or whatever people seem to be considering being “part of the community” is. As long as they play the game, and MODERATE the channel when necessary, they are doing their part for the community; everything else is just a nice extra. This false idea of what a moderator is really shines through in these opinions. For example, everyone knows a few “certain people” have a random internet grudge with Reimu, and that’s cool, but he is still one of the most capable OPs that channel has seen; the fact that you cannot get past your personal bias to recognize this is pretty sad. He wants to be OP, is active in channel, active in game, and doesn’t moderate like a retard. Sounds fantastic, considering all these other recommendations. Remi for SOP? Yama for SOP? I think I even saw beats and sazn listed somewhere. It’s so convenient that everyone put out so little basis for these “nominations”, so let me lend a bit of my perspective. Yama is a good guy but there is no reason he should be SOP; He is basically not active enough and would be more capable as just a regular OP, if anything. Remi is a fairly solid OP, but she definitely needs someone above because she can occasionally fall off the tracks. Beats and sazn I am going to treat as some kind of joke, those are the kind of terrible OPs that never needed to exist in the first place. Of course, we also have ZomB/Golbot/nameless/Trey, since throwing in names of people who are inactive and/or do not want the position is the cool trend here. I like all these people too, but the ones who actually were OP have really been shown to be the kind of OPs who start out strong and then fade into the background. The closest to a real candidate there is ZomB, and even still, he would really be too laid back for SOP. I really think most of the people in channel would be content with the worst moderation possible, so long as it was all people they liked. This is not a popularity contest. As much as it pains me, I have to give credit to Sylian for at least recognizing that I would take this position seriously, despite the fact that we don’t even really like each other. That should be how everyone makes their considerations, instead of how much you like person X or how mean person X was to you whenever. IRC or not, this decision will be fairly important for the channel, and it is pretty silly that so many are content to stand around throwing rocks. If you have nothing better to do than whine about who is not suitable (“that person I hate!”) and throw out almost baseless nominations (“that person I like!”), you don’t deserve to have an opinion on the matter. I don’t see anyone who is complaining or pretending to be so concerned about what happens in the channel actually nominating themselves to do a better job. It is fantastic that there are people in the channel you dislike, that has nothing to do with this. On a ballot, you vote for who you would want to win, not for who you want to lose. Currently see no serious considerations for this other than myself and Reimu. Regardless of all opinion, no one else that I know of has at least personally stepped up to ask for the position, and we should have someone that wants to do this, not another person who doesn’t want it. Anyone who is capable of something beyond 5th grade mudslinging is welcome to disagree and provide a realistic alternative.
I’m afraid I have to correct you. Saying “Remi is a fairly solid OP” is a mistake. Remi is a half-operator, channel mode +h. Current state of affairs completely eliminates any need in half-ops, however, because we now have three (competent and responsible) full-fledged operators who are active, respected by everyone, are good players, and are also extremely good at moderation, not to mention being an example for everyone else.
I’m not even sure why guu started this discussion. He could’ve just posted a poll with the three current operators listed (after all he appointed them himself, and thus trusts them the most) instead of asking for other suggestions. Whoever gets the most votes, gets the SOP position. That would be fair and simple.
This whole post just looks like a flame starter, to be honest. See most of the first replies if you don’t think so.
To clarify my position: it doesn’t matter whom people might offer as possible candidates here. The resulting set will stay the same: raymoo; Remilia-Scarlet; nameless (however if he actually doesn’t want the position, the list narrows down to two candidates). Of those, I believe raymoo will be chosen (see his post above). Anyone else will be just a joke candidate (and, probably, a target for insults—see the comment by “hisoutenstreet” above).

I started the discussion because I do want to hear different opinions. Just like all the current OPs weren’t handpicked by me, but they were promoted based on, guess what, opinions given to me by ex-SOPs. Yes, as surprising as you might find, all of them. Even more surprisingly, I actually threw in my judgment and didn’t follow the recommedations fully, or else there would already be another SOP now. I agreed on our previous SOP, but I couldn’t quite agree on the next one, that’s why this whole discussion began.
I would like to clarify one thing: I never said anything in my initial post that there would definitely be a SOP appointed, and I also implied that in my later comment. If it turns out that there is no suitable person for it, then we will stay SOP-less for now till the one shows up. However, I do want to decide on the EU ranker by the end of this week. Ranking is something for fun and reference only, so even though it’s meant to be implemented seriously, whoever becomes the ranker doesn’t need to feel stressed over it or something.
Sorry, but any serious recommendation for that position wouldn’t include you or Reimu. I’m not being biased at all. And I’m not the only one that thinks what I said. Sorry if that offends you!
I have this overwhelming urge to just post “Grow up” in response to these recent posts. Why does it matter so much to you guys who the new SOP is? Regardless of the person that is appointed, #hisouten is going to remain essentially the same as it always has been. There won’t be a sudden burst of chaos and discord if raymoo is somehow chosen as SOP. Sure, if given the choice, I would rather not have him as SOP, but I won’t get up and leave the channel just because he makes off-color remarks every once in a while. Just pick someone to elevate the position and move on with your lives.
Some of you appear to be more sensible than a lot of people gave you credit for. Some of you are well excceeding expectations for irrationality and narrow minded thinking (Sorry if that offends you!). I am certainly learning a lot from this weird blog. I didn’t even know Aristocrat was so thoughtful, and apparently bitterness is a taste that cannot be cleansed.
If I really need to do it, I would do it. But I just need more time and experience. Just keep me at my current position for a bit longer.
I mean, when you guys put it like that I might as well just say: “I am the only one who can do it!”
