Meidou 2.4 Format Update

My apologies for the late update. Meidou 2.4 will be in the Pairs format with all entries being teams of 2 players. Team members will play best-of-three sets with each team member playing a specified opponent from the other team. For example:

Team 1 has members Alice (A) and Bob (B). Team 2 has members Claire (C) and David (D).

A plays vs. C, and B plays vs. D.

  • Let’s say A wins vs. C and B lost to D.
  • At this point both teams have one win each, so the winners of each match play each other to break the tie (A plays vs. D).

However, if one team wins both of the initial matches (A and B both won), then the team moves on without needing to play the third set.

Registration will be manual instead of automatic; PM Nonoriri on IRC to register your team.

As a reminder, Meidou 2.4 is on June 23, 19:00 EDT for NA. EU was delayed due to Euro 2012.

To register: PM me (Nonoriri/Aristocrat) on Rizon with your region and team preference. You can make changes at any time before the tournament starts. The registration will be finalized on tournament day. Registrations are open from now until the tournament starts.

Meidou 2.3 Postponed

Because of Meidou 2.3 falling on the Diablo 3 launch weekend, I’ve decided to postpone Meidou 2.3 one week. It will now be held on May 26, 2012, at the same hours as originally scheduled.

Enjoy destroying your mice/index fingers, whichever comes first!

P.S. As for why the North American servers kept getting taken down, it may or may not be because of this.

Meidou 2.3 Format Update

After asking players for alternative tournament formats, the overall preference seems to be overwhelmingly in favor of a 50/50 teams tournament. Thus, Meidou 2.2 will be in the Teams format with all entrants split into two big teams. Team members will play best-of-one sets, first team to wipe out all other members wins. Every team member has two “lives”, or two chances to be sent up to play, except the team captains, who have one life each.

Registration will be manual instead of automatic; the NA team captains will likely be the two streamers, Muii and Duckator. EU will need two volunteers as team leaders.

As a reminder, Meidou 2.3 is on May 19, 19:00 UTC for EU, 19:00 EDT for NA.

To register: PM me (Nonoriri/Aristocrat) on Rizon with your region and team preference. You can make changes at any time before the tournament starts. The registration will be finalized on tournament day. Registrations are open from now until the tournament starts.

Meidou 2.2 Format Update

After asking players for alternative tournament formats, the overall preference seems to be overwhelmingly in favor of a 3v3 teams double elimination tournament. Thus, Meidou 2.2 will be in the Teams format. Team members will play best-of-three sets, first team to wipe out all three other members advances. Registration will be manual instead of automatic. The bracket will be double-elimination as usual.

Explanation.

As a reminder, Meidou 2.2 is on April 21, 19:00 UTC for EU, 19:00 EDT for NA.

To register: PM me (Nonoriri/Aristocrat) on Rizon with your team name, region, and tentative team members. You can make changes at any time before the tournament starts. The registration will be official once every member confirms it. Registrations are open from now until the tournament starts. This post will be updated with the participants list once I get some registrations.

Preferably, games will not occur concurrently (so the stream can grab every match). I will see how this works out when it happens. I also fixed the bot (which broke because of an undocumented mIRC hash table bug), so there should be no more scripts randomly breaking during the tournament. Probably.

In case you are not familiar with what has happened recently, here is some supplementary material:

  • <RyuuguuKomachi> No, I’m not playing this game again
  • <RyuuguuKomachi> at least not here
  • <RyuuguuKomachi> maybe at komike
  • <RyuuguuKomachi> k but anyway good luck ya’ll

Both Muii and Magister have said goodbye to the channel. It is truly a shame that something like this has occurred due to the effects of one user. While I can’t do anything about the situation with #hisouten at the moment, I feel that I should begin hosting tournaments again. Perhaps actually complete one pass through one of these series this time. Hopefully, this will breathe some life back into the community. Unlike Meidou 1, I’ll actually be able to host this one without any change of schedule, since there is no longer an issue with organization.

(I know it potentially cuts into Finals Week for some of you guys; sorry! It’s not a ranbats series like Meidou 1, however, so missing one won’t hurt.)
